About the Paintings

Shibley's is a good place to practice law

Opportunities for students

We encourage applications from academically qualified, energetic and responsible students. We are looking for students with the potential to become professionally accomplished lawyers who can deal effectively with clients and work collegially with others at Shibley Righton.

Students at Shibley Righton are exposed to work which is varied, challenging and stimulating. We encourage our students to take the initiative and accept responsibility as they learn how to function as real lawyers.

Shibley Righton LLP only has an Articling Student Program. We do not have a Summer Student Program.

The Articling Program

Articling student positions are available at our Toronto office only.

Students are assigned to mentors at the beginning of their articles. Mentors provide guidance, assistance and insight in the articling process, and help provide feedback and control work flow.

We do not have a formal rotation scheme. Students will receive work from all areas of the firm. Their mentors will ensure that the workload is balanced. We try to accommodate students' requests for work in special areas of interest.

Workloads for students vary. The demands of providing timely service to clients sometimes involve working evenings and weekends for students, just as for lawyers. We encourage our students to docket a full day, and otherwise do whatever is necessary to get the job done. Generally, they manage to do that and still enjoy a balanced life.

We present a series of seminars expressly for the students. In these seminars, lawyers from the firm discuss matters of importance or interest within their practice areas. In this way, we expose our students to areas of practice and law which they might not otherwise encounter in their articles.

Practical Matters

Students' salaries are competitive with those of comparable firms in Toronto. Students also receive the same medical and dental benefits as lawyers. Law Society tuition and application fees for the Licensing Process are paid for by the firm.

Resumés should be complete and accompanied by a covering letter and a transcript of your marks.
