Part of Heather's high school curriculum was to read Edward Greenspan's novel "The Case for the Defence". By the time she finished the book, she was hooked on a career in law.
Heather graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a B.A. in Political Science and Sociology. After embarking on the mandatory post-graduate, "right- of- passage" backpacking trip through Europe, she enrolled in Seneca College's paralegal program. Upon completion of the diploma program, Heather began to work as a real estate law clerk with a prominent Toronto real estate law firm. While working as a law clerk, Heather began to work on a Post-graduate Certificate in Criminology at the Univeristy of Toronto and also successfully completed a Certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution at York Univeristy.
One day while sitting at her desk working through a real estate file Heather thought, why do for others what I can do myself, and she promptly applied to law school and was accepted at Queen's University.
While attending law school, Heather was involved with the Legal Aid Clinic and was on the Executive for the Criminal Law Association and played on the Queen's Law curling team. Heather was also part of the Queen's Law team in the American Bar Association Client Counselling Competition where she placed second in the regional competition. The following year she helped to coach the Queen's team in the same competition. On graduation from Queen's Law in 2004, Heather was one of the recipients of the Denis Marshall Award for outstanding contribution to the law school community.
Heather articled with Shibley Righton LLP in 2004. Heather returns to Shibley Righton as an associate in our active insurance defence practice.
One of Heather's passions is to travel. Travel allows Heather the opportunity to explore her other passion, photography. When Heather is not working, she finds the time to explore her interests in the arts whether it be music concerts, theatre, reading or the Toronto International Film Festival
