Deborah Howden

Deborah Howden thinks outside the box. Her broad range of formal education and practical experience make her aptly suited for developing pragmatic solutions to legal problems. She prides herself on her “no-nonsense” approach.

Deborah was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec. She is fully bilingual, having received her primary education exclusively in the French school system. She went on to achieve undergraduate degrees in both Arts and Education from Queen’s University in Kingston, as well as her Ontario Teaching Certificate. She later graduated from McGill University’s Faculty of Law and was conferred with two law degrees - a Bachelor of Common Law and a Bachelor of Civil law.

Since her call to the Bar, Deborah has practised in the area of management labour/employment and civil litigation, with an emphasis on insurance defence and insurance related litigation. She has acted as counsel for a number of institutional clients, including hospitals, employers, insurers and school boards, and has frequently appeared before administrative tribunals and levels of court in Ontario on their behalf. Deborah has also repeatedly represented clients at mediation and arbitration. She has been a speaker at legal conferences in the areas of law in which she practices.

Deborah’s current practice involves all manner of insurance related litigation, including property damage claims, personal injury actions, sexual assault and abuse claims, and accident benefits.

When not chasing after her active young children, Deborah can be found vigorously debating the provisions of various legislation with her husband, Kevin. She is also known to tickle the ivories, try (oh-so-desperately) to improve her golf swing, and meander Oakville’s scenic trails and parks with the whole family in tow.
