Arthur O. Jacques

Prior to joining Shibley Righton, Arthur has practiced as a senior partner with Toronto-based domestic and international law firms. He is now a member of the Business Law Practice Group and Financial Services Group of Shibley Righton, LLP.

Over the past 30 years, Arthur’s practice has involved him in numerous corporate and commercial law activities with an extensive emphasis on major corporate restructuring, liquidations, acquisitions and corporate and real estate asset acquisitions, financial restructurings and liquidations within the financial services, real estate development, retail, manufacturing and hospitality sectors for both domestic and cross-border transactions.

During the past several years, Arthur has also advised clients and facilitated transactions in the United Kingdom, United States, France, Germany, Kuwait, Iran, Greece and the Pacific Run, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea and the People Republic of China with respect to their business affairs in Canada. These engagements were from a variety of commercial, financial, real estate and service organizations.

Arthur was instrumental in the acquisitions and financing in Canada by a Hong Kong Financial Group of two major four-star hotels in the Toronto area. He has also acted for Canada’s largest retail farm co-operative and a number of Korea and Pacific Rim manufacturers of high-end electronic components and other entertainment products distributed in Canada.

American asset-based acquisition and financial institutions in the distressed security market have also been major clients. Arthur has substantial experience in financial institutional and regulatory matters involving correspondent banking and money laundering activities. He has testified before the United States Senate Correspondent Banking Hearing (Levin Committee).

He has also been involved in a large number of corporate/commercial actions and transactions including shareholder disputes and implementation of buy/sell obligations, negotiations on behalf of Canadian investors in foreign transactions, and financing of residential apartment block acquisitions. He has acted as Special Counsel to a number of large Canadian and U.S.-based corporations.
