Labour and Employment Group
|
Brain P. Nolan has been acting on behalf of school boards and other employers for more than twenty years, including contract negotiations, grievances, mediations, arbitrations, and many other aspects of the union/management relationship. His modus operandi? Above all, get the matter resolved with a minimum of cost and maximum of benefit to the client. He is assisted in many of his endeavours by other members of the Education and Public Law Group, who themselves also have extensive experience in labour and employment matters affecting school boards and education organizations.
A similar philosophy pervades the firm's work in non-union employment matters. Charles U. Simco, a senior lawyer in the field, along with other members of our Civil Litigation Group, handle wrongful dismissal and other employment law disputes for both employers and employees with the practical approach needed to get the job done right. Whether the claim is $25,000.00 or $10 million, their experience allows them to balance toughness in negotiations and litigation, with recognition of the mutual desire of the parties to get the problem resolved.
The firm's Business Law Group is also active in employment issues, advising employers and employees at the time of contracting on the best ways to avoid future disputes, and to protect their respective interests. And the firm's Taxation and Tax Planning Group regularly advises on the tax implications of employment issues, including matters as diverse as when an employment relationship is created, domestic and international withholding tax obligations, stock option plans, and taxation of dispute settlement structures.
