Professional Regulation and Discipline Law

There are approximately 40 professions in Ontario that regulate themselves under statute. Many other professions participate in voluntary self-regulation. Our professional regulation and discipline group is devoted to the highly specialized nature of this field.

We act for professionals and their regulatory bodies in the health care, education, construction and design, real estate, and business and accounting sectors. Our expertise includes:

  • formation and structuring of business entities in order to maximize tax efficiencies including incorporation
  • registration, accreditation and examination
  • complaints and investigations
  • discipline for misconduct or incompetence
  • incapacity matters
  • standard and rule setting
  • quality assurance, peer assessment and inspection programs
  • client relations and public education
  • prosecuting unregistered persons engaging in authorized practice or using protected titles
  • dispute resolution and litigation

Many colleges, professionals and professional organizations are experiencing the burden of increasing legal costs. By taking a common sense approach, including working with our clients to address emerging issues before they arise, we are often successful in minimizing problems or avoiding them altogether. Clients often find we get the job done – and we get it done skillfully and proficiently.
