Toronto labour/employment and human rights lawyer Deborah Howden says a couple of recent incidents raise questions around what an employer can do when faced with an employee’s off-duty vulgar or bizarre conduct.

The Toronto Star reports that the expletive-laden exchange between Toronto soccer fans and CityNews reporter Shauna Hunt has cost a Hydro One employee his job.

Shortly after the televised incident, a Hydro One spokesperson says the company is taking steps to terminate the employee involved for violating the company’s Code of Conduct.
